Nigerian gospel preacher Lawrence Oyor has praised NDC presidential contender Peter Obi’s political career, pointing out how the former governor of Anambra State rose to prominence without being embroiled in any scandals.
Oyor made the comment while talking about his prospects in front of the 2027 general elections during a recent church program.
Whether or not Nigerians plan to vote for Obi, the gospel preacher pointed out that his track record and ascent to power should make people wonder.
“Whether you want to vote for Peter Obi for president or not, it should baffle you that a man has made it to that level of prosperity and capacity, as far as politics, power and influence are concerned, and yet you cannot pin anything on him.
Do you know how strange that is in this country? If there’s anything they could have found, they would have found it by now.” he remarked.
Obi’s public prominence, especially his years in politics and his ongoing relevance ahead of the 2027 presidential race, has been highlighted by Oyor’s remarks.
After running for president in 2023 on the Labour Party platform, Obi—who was governor of Anambra State from 2006 to 2013—became well-known across the country.
His performance in the election, in which he won multiple states while finishing third, solidified his status as a key opposition figure and contributed to the formation of the “Obidient” movement.
Since then, Obi’s fans have persisted in calling for him to run for office once more in 2027 while he has continued to discuss governance, accountability, and the economy.
As Nigerians anticipate the next presidential election, Oyor’s comments have thus brought a new dimension to the existing discussion about Obi’s political career and public record.
