"I paid ₦3m for rent, months later my landlord returned only ₦500k, says..." — Port Harcourt lady cries out

A housing dispute in Port Harcourt has sparked outrage after a tenant accused her landlord of offering “insulting” compensation for a planned renovation.

A woman shared her experience on X, formerly known as Twitter. She paid N3 million for a one-bedroom apartment less than a year ago.

She claimed the landlord wants to renovate the estate and is only offering her N500,000 in compensation.

Tenant Cries Out Over N3m Rent

In her post, the tenant expressed shock and frustration with the development. She stated that the apartment is not even one year old.

“I paid 3 million naira for a one-bedroom apartment in Port Harcourt THREE MILLION and the house isn’t even up to one year old,” she wrote.

She questioned the logic of the landlord’s offer. According to her, receiving N500,000 after paying N3 million makes no sense.

“How does that even make sense? How is that fair?” she asked.

The tenant described the situation as painful and insulting. She accused some landlords in the city of being wicked and insensitive to the financial struggles of residents.

“People are struggling to survive, to pay rent, to stay afloat, and you think 500k is compensation for 3 million? This is not just unfair it’s painful and insulting,” she added.

Her post quickly gained attention online, with many users sharing their opinions and advice.

Bryan wrote: “You can take him to court but use a good lawyer… He knows what he’s doing and it’s not renovation.”
