Senator Dino Melaye, a prominent member of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), has stated that although he is financially secure, he is not content with his fortune.

Melaye made the comments while discussing his wealth, source of income, and connection with God in a widely shared podcast.

The former senator emphasised that he was happy with what he had and that he thought God was the source of true prosperity.

“Well, I will not agree that I’m so wealthy, but I will say I’m comfortable to the glory of God. I will say I’m not satisfied, but I’m not hungry. I will say I’m contented.”

In response to enquiries regarding the source of his fortune, Melaye stated that if he had obtained it illegally, he would not be critical of the government.

“But I want to tell you that legitimate wealth comes only from God Almighty. If my wealth is ill-gotten, if I have stolen government money, I will not be criticising government because it would have long come after me.”

The ADC chairman further asserted that because he had never been involved in government contracts, he had never received an invitation from any of Nigeria’s anti-corruption organisations.

“I’ve never been invited by EFCC or ICPC or any of the anti-corruption agencies in this country because I’ve never done government contracts, whether at federal or state level.”

Melaye revealed that he had never directly asked God for money or a car and that his prayers were not focused on earthly belongings.

“I’ve never prayed to God to give me a car. I’ve never prayed to God Almighty to ask him to give me money. Never.”

He said his main prayer was for divine direction rather than material wealth.

“I’ve never asked for any material thing from God. Never. My prayer to God always is God give me direction.”
