A Nigerian man has shared his experience after alleging that his girlfriend blocked him following his refusal to send her ₦40,000 to settle the cost of making her hair.
The man, identified on X as @prince_dc21_, recounted the incident in a post, explaining that his girlfriend had gone to a salon without informing him about her plans.
According to his account, she only contacted him after finishing her hair and asked him to transfer ₦40,000 so she could pay the hairstylist.
He said the request caught him off guard because he was unaware that she had planned to make her hair and had not made provisions for the expense.
The man claimed he told her that he did not have the money available at the time. He said she then suggested that he contact his friends and ask them to send him the money so she could settle the bill and return home.
“I told her I don’t have. She ended the call.”
He said he attempted to reach her by phone later that evening, but the calls reportedly failed to connect. After eventually going to bed, he discovered the following morning that she had blocked him on WhatsApp.
Expressing his disappointment, the man pointed out that he had recently spent a significant amount of money on his girlfriend and had also been providing her with regular financial support.
“This is someone I recently bought an iPhone 15 Pro Max for barely one month ago, and also placed her on a monthly allowance of ₦50k,” he lamented.
The story has generated conversations about financial expectations between couples, communication and the importance of setting boundaries around money in relationships.
Some reactions have particularly questioned whether refusing to provide the requested ₦40,000 should have resulted in the alleged blocking, while others have focused on the financial arrangements between the couple.
