Ayodele Fayose, a former governor of Ekiti State, has asserted that Peter Obi’s decision to switch from the African Democratic Congress to the Nigeria Democratic Congress hurt his prospects of winning the 2027 presidential election.

In an interview with TVC News’ Politics Tonight, Fayose made the remark when evaluating the strength of opposition parties in front of the general elections in 2027.

The former governor claimed that when opposition lawmakers banded together under the ADC, they had a better chance of opposing the ruling All Progressives Congress.

According to Fayose, Obi’s decision to quit the ADC was a game-changer for his political future.

He said, “When they were all together in ADC, I would tell anybody that they will make an impact. The day Obi left ADC for NDC, that day Obi lost.”

In spite of his criticism, Fayose called the former governor of Anambra State “a fantastic Nigerian who has made his marks, who has shown that things can get better.”

He stated that it was now too late for the politicians to change their minds and that the opposition’s inability to stay cohesive will continue to harm its chances of winning elections.

Additionally, according to Fayose, President Bola Tinubu now enjoys an advantage in the Southwest, where he is expected to receive almost four million votes based on the voting trend for 2023.

Additionally, he projected that Tinubu will receive roughly 65% of the vote in the 2027 election.

The former governor also denounced allegations of vote-buying during the Osun governorship race, arguing that electoral corruption was a systemic issue that called for shared accountability.
