The Nigeria Police Force has issued a nationwide security alert following intelligence indicating plans by terr0rist elements to carry out coordinated att@cks on places of worship, schools, NYSC orientation camps and other vulnerable locations.
The warning was contained in a wireless message issued by the Force Department of Operations in Abuja and circulated to police commands and formations across the country.
The communication, referenced CB: 0900/FDPS/DOPS/FHQ/ABJ/VOL38/68, was marked “Security General” and tagged “Treat as Very Important.”
Terr0rist mobilisation raises concern
According to the alert, intelligence gathered by the Force points to increased mobilisation of terrorist elements across parts of the country.
The North-East, North-West, North-Central and some parts of the South-West were identified as areas requiring heightened vigilance.
Of particular concern is the reported movement of armed elements from Katsina through Kaduna towards Plateau State.
The police also said suspected Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP) operatives and their local collaborators were conducting surveillance and reconnaissance of potential targets.
Schools, NYSC camps identified as potential targets
Schools were reportedly singled out as a major security concern ahead of the resumption of the 2026/2027 academic session.
The Force warned that terr0rists could exploit the return of students and school staff to carry out att@cks capable of causing mass casualties.
NYSC orientation camps and places of worship were also identified among the locations requiring increased security attention.
Police warn of possible att@cks ahead of 2027 elections
The intelligence further raised concerns that terrorist elements could attempt to carry out att@cks ahead of the 2027 general elections.
According to the assessment, such att@cks could be aimed at creating fear, disrupting normal activities and destabilising communities.
The Department of Operations reportedly assessed the development as a possible progression from terrorist “intent to preparatory activity.”
The police alert underscores the need for heightened vigilance among security agencies and members of the public, particularly around schools, worship centres, NYSC facilities and other potentially vulnerable locations.
