Nollywood actress Damilola Adegbite has advised single women to be intentional when choosing partners, urging them not to accept relationship or marriage proposals simply because a man has expressed interest in them.

Speaking during a recent episode of her podcast shared on her YouTube channel, Adegbite said women should look beyond the fact that a man is willing to marry them and consider whether he is genuinely compatible with them.

‘Choose someone because they are right for you’

According to the actress, some women may settle for men simply because those men are ready to commit, rather than taking time to determine whether the relationship is right for them.

Adegbite encouraged women to also consider their own preferences, values and compatibility when making decisions about marriage.

She said:

“Ladies, don’t choose someone because they chose you. Choose someone because they are right for you; whether he’s younger, older or exactly your age, the question is always: Can we love, support, and build with each other?

Because at the end of the day, we are not looking for numbers. We are looking for a partner. And if that partner happens to be younger, that is also fine,” she said.

Adegbite speaks on relationships with younger men

The actress also addressed relationships between older women and younger men, advising women not to accept a proposal simply because a younger man has chosen them.

Instead, she encouraged women to assess the character of a prospective partner, particularly his level of respect, emotional maturity and ability to build a healthy relationship.

Adegbite’s comments have sparked conversations online about age differences in relationships, compatibility and the importance of making marriage decisions based on more than simply being chosen by a prospective partner.
