A matchmaker has generated outrage online after criticising a 42-year-old woman whose marriage preparations fell apart after her family presented what he regarded as an extravagant bride price list.

He stated that he had worked hard to link the woman with a man who was truly interested in marrying her.

However, things apparently changed when conversations over the bride’s price began.

“You’re 42 years old, and I managed to get you a man. He asked for bride price, and your parents are bringing almost ₦12 million plus as bride price list. Forty-two years old, no children, never been married, and you have mind to be asking for such amount as bride price.”

He claimed that the high bride price demand surprised him and may have prevented the prospective groom from continuing the connection.

The matchmaker further said that the woman later reported that the man had stopped interacting with her and was no longer returning her calls following the marriage conversations.

“Now you’re telling me that you’ve been calling him, he’s not picking your calls and has blocked you. I know what I went through before connecting you with that man.

Forty-two years old oo. Now it’s clear that your village people are the ones doing you,” he added.

The story has received conflicting comments online, with some condemning the bride’s price demand and others defending the family’s decision.

One user wrote, “₦12 million for bride price is too much. No wonder the man run.” Another commented, “Families have the right to set their requirements. If he truly wanted her, he would have negotiated.”
