Daddy Freeze, a well-known figure in the media, has explained why he left the song service honouring the late actor Alex Ekubo.
Speaking about the occasion in a widely shared video on the internet, he claimed that he went expecting a sombre gathering with the purpose of honouring the actor and providing support to his bereaved family.
He claims that he was taken aback by a few elements of the show, especially the fact that serious worship practices continued even after the actor’s death.
“Nathaniel Bassey said they were supposed to go and pray for Alex on Tuesday, but he died on Monday. They still went on Tuesday and still sang and prayed. I’m like, really? What happened to the miracles and healings you share on your platforms?” he questioned.
The media personality also questioned some of the miracles and testimonials frequently shared on his platform, taking a jab at well-known gospel musician and Hallelujah Challenge coordinator.
Daddy Freeze said that rather than long lectures and speeches, he would have preferred to hear more from Alex Ekubo’s siblings, widow, and other family members.
He clarified that although he originally stayed at the gathering in spite of the preaching sessions, he ultimately made the decision to leave when the mood shifted.
“Mercy Chinwo climbed the pulpit and turned the place into a concert. At that point, I got up and left,” he said.
Since then, his comments have generated conflicting opinions on the internet. While some believe that funeral ceremonies need to be more contemplative and focused on the deceased, others contend that worship and praise are proper ways to pay respect to the deceased.
Nigerians disagree on how memorial ceremonies and song services should be performed, and the remarks continue to spark discussion on social media.
