Iran Suspends Strait Of Hormuz Traffic, Warns ‘No Passage After Israeli Attacks on Lebanon’

According to a report by CBS NEWS on Wednesday, April 08, 2026, Iranian authorities reported Wednesday that tanker traffic through the strategic Strait of Hormuz has been temporarily suspended in response to ongoing Israeli strikes against Hezbollah positions in Lebanon, according to the semi-official Fars news agency.

Fars, closely linked to Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC), said that earlier in the day, two vessels had safely transited the strait after receiving Iran’s approval, following the conditional ceasefire agreement brokered with the United States. However, the news agency indicated that subsequent Israeli attacks on Lebanese targets prompted Tehran to halt further tanker movement.

Iran’s naval forces previously issued a radio advisory to ships in the Persian Gulf, emphasizing that all vessels must obtain authorization before passing through the strait. The warning, reported by The Wall Street Journal, highlighted Tehran’s strict control over one of the world’s most critical maritime oil routes.

The Strait of Hormuz, linking the Persian Gulf with the Gulf of Oman, remains a vital corridor for global energy exports, with roughly one-fifth of the world’s oil passing through it. Any disruption has immediate implications for international markets and energy security.

While the conditional ceasefire between the U.S. and Iran temporarily paused direct hostilities, Tehran’s decision to restrict maritime traffic underscores the fragility of the agreement amid regional tensions. Analysts note that Iranian measures appear designed to assert control over the strait while signaling its disapproval of Israeli military operations in Lebanon.

Authorities continue to monitor the situation closely, with maritime operators advised to comply with Iran’s instructions to ensure safe passage and avoid escalation.
