“You carry N1 million to the market, it will buy you nothing” — Celebrity Designer Toyin Lawani laments rising food prices in Nigeria

Concern over Nigeria’s growing food prices has been voiced by fashion entrepreneur Toyin Lawani.

She asked how many Nigerians are managing the present costs of staple foods in an online video, characterising the situation as challenging for several families.

She claims that four pieces of plantain sell for about N2,500, while a small basket of Irish potatoes currently costs about N30,000.

“How are people eating? How are people fending? Things are ridiculously expensive,” she said.

“You carry one million naira to market, it will buy you nothing,” Toyin continued, adding that even N1 million is no longer sufficient for food buying.
