The 46 students and instructors who were kidnapped by suspected bandits on May 15 are still inside the Old Oyo National Park corridor, according to Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde.

In his Newsletter No. 140, which was published on Friday, June 12, Makinde revealed this while providing an update on the rescue operations just 28 days after the catastrophe.

Despite his repeated promises to the locals that the victims would be saved and reunited with their loved ones, the governor acknowledged that these promises would not provide much solace as the days went by.

Security officers face enormous operational hurdles due to the area’s size and challenging terrain, necessitating patience, strategic cooperation, and persistent attempts to achieve a successful rescue mission.

As a result, the governor encouraged citizens to keep an eye out and report any suspicious activity via the state’s toll-free Citizens Enquiry Number, 615, promising that all reliable reports would be promptly addressed.
