King Oyo Nyimba Kabamba Iguru Rukidi IV of Uganda’s Tooro Kingdom, who became the world’s youngest reigning monarch when he ascended the throne at the age of three, has died aged 34.

The death of the Tooro monarch was confirmed by the Tooro Kingdom’s Prime Minister on Thursday nite, highlighting the amazing life of a sovereign who reigned for more than three decades.

Following his father’s death in 1995, King Oyo succeeded as Omukama (King) of Tooro. His accession made him one of the youngest rulers in modern history, drawing international attention.

Despite becoming king as a toddler, King Oyo remained the cultural and traditional leader of the Tooro Kingdom as he grew into manhood and assumed increased duties.

His rule lasted more than 30 years, and he became a key character in Uganda’s traditional and cultural environment.

At the time of his death, the monarch had not legally married. His extraordinary transition from kid monarch to adult traditional ruler remains one of his most notable achievements.

When King Oyo’s death was reported, the cause had not been divulged.

King Oyo’s death at 34 is expected to reignite popular interest in his extraordinary life and long reign, notably the circumstances surrounding his succession to the kingdom as a three-year-old.

His death closes an unprecedented chapter in the history of the Tooro Kingdom, where he was the traditional monarch for more than three decades.
