David Umahi, Minister of Works, has asked Southeast citizens to vote for President Bola Tinubu in the 2027 presidential elections.

Umahi made the request while touring the 65-kilometer Afikpo-Uturu-Okigwe road project in Okigwe, Imo State, urging the region to support the president based on infrastructure developments being carried out by his government.

The minister stated that Southeast votes alone could not win Peter Obi president, and urged citizens to take a deliberate approach to the 2027 election.

The minister said, “The South East must vote for President Bola Tinubu in 2027. The South East must know that our vote alone cannot make our brother, His Excellency Peter Obi, to be president. No, we have to be strategic.”

He also urged citizens to appreciate what he saw as the Federal Government’s infrastructure investments in the region.

Umahi further said, “I boldly say do not vote for His Excellency Peter Obi, vote for President Bola Tinubu.”

The minister also highlighted the difficult mountainous part of the Afikpo-Uturu-Okigwe route, stating that its elimination will improve safety and minimise accidents.

Umahi said, “This mountain, by the command of President Bola Tinubu, must collapse for the people of the South East.”

More than 20 miles of the 65-kilometer project have apparently been completed. The road is being built under the Federal Government’s tax-credit plan, with Dangote Industries Limited as the sponsor and Hi-Tech Construction as the contractor.

The minister’s remarks have fuelled the political debate ahead of the 2027 election, notably on voting trends and federal infrastructure in the Southeast.
