“Very respected woman” – Donald Trump praises Remi Tinubu at US national prayer breakfast

During the National Prayer Breakfast in Washington, DC, US President Donald Trump officially thanked Nigeria’s First Lady, Senator Remi Tinubu, calling her a’very respected woman’.

Trump highlighted Mrs. Tinubu’s presence at the annual event, which attracts lawmakers, religious leaders, and international guests, as he spoke about religion and worldwide religious freedom.

“We’re honoured to be joined today by the First Lady of Nigeria, who also happens to serve as a Christian pastor at the largest church in Nigeria… a very respected woman,” Trump said while acknowledging the audience.

Senator Remi Tinubu is an ordained pastor in Nigeria’s largest Pentecostal denomination, the Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG), founded by Pastor Enoch Adeboye.

Her involvement in the church, as well as her position as First Lady, have established her as a well-known figure in religious and diplomatic circles.

The words come as international attention remains focused on Nigeria’s security concerns.

In October 2025, President Trump named Nigeria as a ‘country of particular concern’ due to claimed attacks on Christians, which sparked criticism from the Nigerian government, who stated that insecurity affects citizens of all faiths.

Trump’s recognition of Remi Tinubu at the high-profile prayer session exemplifies the convergence of faith, diplomacy, and global leadership, highlighting her significance as both a religious leader and a public figure.
