A woman stirred a heated internet controversy after admitting that her stepfather refused to pay for her wedding because she wanted her biological father to escort her down the aisle.
In a comprehensive online essay, the woman noted that, despite the fact that her stepfather had financially supported her for years, she felt strongly about providing her biological father the usual role in the ceremony.
According to her, the decision was not intended to offend her stepfather.
She admitted that he had been there in her life, assisting with school expenditures, purchasing a car, and offering financial assistance when she needed it.
However, she stated that, despite his flaws and inconsistencies, her biological father continues to retain a special place in her life.
She went on to say that her husband was the first to offer that her biological father walk her down the aisle, which made her realise she could regret leaving him out of such an important event.
The woman stated that when her stepfather learned of her decision, he opted not to pay for the wedding anymore.
She confessed she realised he was hurt, but she argued she was not trying to use him financially. She explained that she had simply become accustomed to his assistance because he was usually present.
The quarrel apparently led to deeper family troubles, with the woman saying that her stepfather had since separated from her mother as a result of the incident.
Despite the abuse she has received online, she has stated that she does not regret her decision, emphasising that all she wanted was for herself and her father to have that crucial moment on her wedding day.
