Drama as bride refuses to promise to “obey” husband during wedding vows

A bride openly refused to use the word “obey” in her vows at a wedding ceremony, causing drama.

In a popular video published on X (previously Twitter) by @dammiedammie35, the bride repeatedly stated that she would not commit to “obey” her spouse as part of the vows.

During the ceremony, she forcefully expressed to the officiant that she was not comfortable making such a pledge and would rather proceed with the vows without using the term.

“I’m not saying that word. I’m not saying that word. I’m not obeying anybody. I don’t obey anybody, especially him,” she said.

“So you can continue without that word. Cherish. I’m not obeying nobody. I’m not saying that word. You think I’m about to start my life off obeying a man? Never. I’m not obeying anybody.”

The bride went on to say that she did not want to start her marriage with a commitment of obedience, and that her husband was aware of her policy.

Her comments rapidly gained notice online, with numerous social media users expressing differing views on the situation.

While some people applauded her position, believing that marriage should be founded on equality rather than obedience, others criticised her approach, claiming that the matter should have been handled discreetly.

One user wrote, “She couldn’t even pretend. Na wa oo.” Another added, “I can change her 😂 Bro is in for a premature life ending.”
