A Nigerian travel advisor told the tale of a Nigerian family living in the UK who allegedly lost their housing after assisting a fellow Nigerian woman who had recently relocated there to pursue her studies.
The travel advisor, who went by the handle @boye4christ2006 on X, formerly Twitter, described the event while raising concerns about the challenges Nigerians might encounter when attempting to assist one another overseas.
The travel advisor claims that the Nigerian woman was hosted by the family when she came to the UK three months ago to pursue her studies.
“This Nigerian family helped a Nigerian lady who came to the UK to study just three months ago,” he wrote.
According to him, the family charged her £300 a month for rent, which was allegedly less than the £500 to £600 she was paying for lodging near her school.
“They accommodated her and were collecting £300 for rent. It was cheap because renting around the school area was between £500 and £600,” he stated.
The woman allegedly made friends who had a negative impact on her after she started school, according to the travel consultant.
“When the lady got to school and met some friends who later taught her bad stuffs, she later discovered that the people who accommodated her were also renting the property,” he wrote.
According to him, the woman then threatened to report the family to the landlord if they didn’t lower her rent from £300 to £200.
“She then proposed that they reduce her rent to £200, or else she would report them to the landlord,” he stated.
The woman allegedly reported the family to the landlord after they rejected the proposal.
“They disagreed, and eventually, she reported them to the landlord,” the consultant wrote.
On the same day, he said, the landlord came to the property and told the tenants that they had violated their lease and would have to vacate.
“The landlord came to the property that same day and told the tenants to vacate the apartment because they had breached their tenancy agreement,” he stated.
According to @boye4christ2006, the student and family members were then forced to look for new housing.
“Now, both of them are looking for house.”
“Is it a crime to help Nigerians in the UK?” he asked.
He added: “It’s difficult to help Nigerians in the UK.”
