“Our musicians are worshipped, but nobody hypes Nollywood” – Actor Gideon Okeke speaks out

?Our musicians are worshipped, but nobody hypes Nollywood? ? Actor Gideon Okeke speaks out

In a passionate video, actor Gideon Okeke criticized the disparity in the way Nigerian artists support one another, particularly in the music and film industries.

In the video, Gideon questioned why Nollywood actors, actresses, and filmmakers seldom receive the same public support from their musical counterparts, while Nigerian musicians are widely praised, idolized, and promoted worldwide.

Even though platforms like Netflix expose Nollywood to a worldwide audience, he noted that while Nigerian artists proudly embrace labels like “big three” and “big five,” very few of them publicly promote or hype Nigerian movies, actors, or producers.

Gideon made reference to how international celebrities, such as former US President Barack Obama, openly support the music they like and questioned the potential effects of Nigerian musicians doing the same for Nollywood.
