Tracy Ohiri, a businesswoman, has claimed that she was compelled to retract her previous charges against Minister of Works Dave Umahi, reigniting debate about the circumstances surrounding her public apology.
Ohiri had previously dropped complaints of sexual harassment and unpaid contract claims against the minister in a video statement, apologising for any humiliation.
However, in a fresh development, she claimed the retraction was not voluntary.
“I haven’t been paid my full money yet. Minister Dave Umahi used my lawyer… to trick me into making the retraction video to clear him,” she alleged.
She also claimed there was an understanding that she would be compensated before the video was released.
“The agreement was that once I made it, I would be paid before it was released to the public, but instead, they released it without my consent and without paying me,” she said, appealing to Nigerians for support.
In her previous statement, Ohiri stated that she chose to retract the charges after consulting with her family, friends, and legal team.
“I apologise to Engineer Dave Umahi for the embarrassment this allegation may have caused him and his family,” she stated.
She also stated that there was no formal contract arrangement and that the documents she prepared may have been used without the minister’s knowledge.
The inconsistent assertions have sparked significant outrage, with many Nigerians questioning the authenticity of both allegations, as well as the broader ramifications for responsibility and justice.
“You all can laugh and mock me all you want… it is me today and it can still be you tomorrow,” Ohiri said, as the controversy continues to unfold.
