A Nigerian woman who has lived in the Netherlands for over ten years expressed dismay upon returning to Nigeria to witness how the country and its system have changed since she left.

In a video posted on X (previously Twitter), the woman announced that she is now a Dutch citizen who is married to a Dutch citizen. She claimed that she hadn’t visited Nigeria in over a decade and wanted to observe how things had evolved.

She was unimpressed with what she saw, noting that Nigeria had stayed virtually unchanged since her departure, with the exception of the bridge around Ojodu Berger.

“I’ve been in Netherlands for more than ten years, and I’m a citizen of Netherlands, married to a citizen there. Since I left, I’ve not been to Nigeria, so I decided to come here and see how the system is. To be honest, I’m disappointed.”

The woman likened Nigeria’s system to that of the Netherlands, pointing out that taxes paid by working residents are utilised to help those who cannot afford certain essentials.Africans & Diaspora

She also emphasised access to public resources, noting that children from various origins attend the same schools and that locals typically use healthcare facilities near to their homes.

She went on to say that everyone is covered and receives emergency medical care, regardless of their status.

“If there is an accident, it doesn’t matter who you are. They come, they pick you, they start treatment from the ambulance, and then they take you to hospital. You are covered with insurance. That’s how the system works,” she added.

Her remarks have sparked online debates about public services, welfare, and the differences between life in Nigeria and the Netherlands.
