“My $800 rent covers electricity, water, gas” – Abroad-based Nigerian man compares bills in Nigeria, Canada

A Nigerian man who resides in Canada claims that his monthly rent pays for multiple household expenses after comparing the cost of rent and utility bills overseas with what Nigerians pay at home.

The man clarified that he pays $800 a month for his lodging, which includes his monthly gas, water, and electricity bills.

He pointed out that, in contrast to what he thinks many Nigerians go through with numerous expenses, the payment is made once a month and lasts until the end of the billing period.

He claims that the $800 rent is roughly equal to four days’ worth of his Canadian income.

When talking to their relatives and friends back home, he continued, some Nigerians frequently inflate the expense of living overseas, especially when talking about monthly expenses.

The man clarified that he does not have to pay extra for the covered utilities during the month after paying his rent.

Additionally, he compared the situation to Nigeria, where he asserted that individuals might have to make repeated payments for various bills.

“Your families over here will be shouting bills as if they pay it every week,” he remarked.

The man further argued that the affordability of his utility bills was linked to the quality of governance in Canada, dismissing the idea that prayers alone determine such conditions.

The man rejected the notion that prayers alone determine such conditions, arguing instead that the affordability of his utility bills was connected to Canada’s level of governance.

Mentioning Apostle Arome Osayi and accusing some pastors of being fraudulent, he also took a jab at Nigerians who accept the claims made by pastors.

Some social media users have debated whether rent-inclusive utility plans are typical in Canada and how household expenses differ between Nigeria and Canada in response to the comments.
