“Most of them failed in life” – Sowore blasts pastors, says churches are ‘collection points’

Omoyele Sowore, a controversial activist and former presidential candidate, has sparked new controversy online after making incendiary charges about pastors and churches in Nigeria.

In a viral video circulating on social media, Sowore claimed that many people who become pastors do so because they are unable to thrive in other aspects of life.

According to him, some church leaders “failed in school” or avoided what he defined as hard labour, preferring to create churches.

He described addressing a preacher he had met and encouraging him to transform his church building into a hospital for only a year.

“I told him, if you turn this church into a hospital for one year, you will see how many lives you will save,” Sowore said.

However, he stated that the suggestion infuriated the cleric, who has since refused to associate with him.

Sowore also accused some churches of serving as “collection points” for vulnerable people, claiming that certain pastors exploited followers through bogus ideologies.

Despite the potential blowback, the activist remained firm.

“Pastors don’t like me, but I know God loves me,” he declared.

His comments have subsequently sparked heated debate on social media, with supporters admiring his bravery and detractors condemning him for criticising religious authorities.
