Michael Carrick’s position as Manchester United head coach is under pressure as the international break arrives. Sunday’s 1-1 draw at Fulham extended the club’s run without victory to three matches as the Premier League enters its hiatus. After back-to-back defeats against Manchester City and Brighton, United languish in 12th position and have already exited the Carabao Cup.

Nevertheless, supporters are expected to receive definitive information regarding the managerial situation ahead of competitive action resuming in three weeks’ time. Transfer speculation is also gathering pace once again as United identify possible reinforcements for the January transfer window.

United’s hierarchy has no intention of dismissing Carrick as manager and installing Antonio Conte as his successor. According to TEAMtalk, the club remains supportive of their current head coach.

Despite this, United’s senior leadership reportedly remains fully behind their current manager. While Italian media outlets have claimed that Conte is United’s preferred candidate should Carrick depart, there have been no conversations regarding possible successors.

Conte, 57, remains without a club following his departure from Napoli at the end of last season. The Italian is an attractive proposition, given that he’s already secured the Premier League title with Chelsea in 2017.

Nevertheless, it appears that United are fully committed to Carrick’s vision. Having said that, those making decisions at Old Trafford will undoubtedly require signs of progress following the international break if they’re to maintain that stance.
