Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has called on residents of Rivers State to support President Bola Tinubu’s bid for re-election in the 2027 presidential election.
Wike made the appeal on Monday during separate town hall meetings with the Rumueme and Apara kingdoms in Obio-Akpor Local Government Area of Rivers State.
‘Tinubu has recognised Rivers State’
The former Rivers State governor urged residents to look beyond political sentiments and consider what he described as the benefits the state had received from the Tinubu administration.
According to Wike, the Federal Government has embarked on development projects in Rivers State and appointed several indigenes of the state to strategic positions.
He urged residents to reciprocate what he described as the President’s recognition of Rivers State by supporting Tinubu at the polls.
“Let us forget sentiment and vote for the person who has recognised the people of Rivers State with dividends of democracy and with several appointments.”
Wike’s comments form part of his ongoing mobilisation for Tinubu ahead of the 2027 election.
‘Everything I am doing now is about Tinubu’s re-election’
The FCT minister also disclosed the extent to which Tinubu’s second-term bid has become a major focus for him, saying the President’s re-election occupies his thoughts throughout his daily activities.
“Each day I sleep, I am thinking about the president’s re-election. When I am eating, I think about the president’s re-election. Everything I am doing now is about the president’s re-election,” Wike said.
‘2027 will be easier than 2023’
Wike also expressed confidence that Tinubu’s campaign for a second term would be less difficult than the President’s 2023 presidential campaign.
“I know the re-election of Tinubu in 2027 will be easier than that of 2023. We should appreciate Tinubu and ensure he gets a massive number of votes. We can do it.”
He reiterated that the Tinubu administration had brought development projects to Rivers State and provided opportunities for people from the state through appointments to key government positions.
Wike’s remarks come as political parties and major political figures intensify their mobilisation ahead of the 2027 general elections, with Rivers State expected to remain an important political battleground.
