A Nigerian man started a discussion about workplace ethics after revealing his experience with an Abuja-based organization during a job application.

In a popular video, the man claimed to have applied for a remote social media management post. However, he reported that the recruitment process quickly got frustrating.

According to him, the company sent out an interview invitation around 6 p.m. on Thursday for an in-person interview set for 2 p.m. the next day.

He claimed he first noticed the email at 9 a.m. on Friday and alerted the employer that he couldn’t make it to the office on such short notice.

He said that the business declined to reschedule the appointment, citing that 2 p.m. was the common interview time for all applicants.

The individual explained that the employer later agreed to conduct the interview virtually.

However, he said that he waited more than 30 minutes before receiving the Zoom link from the human resources agent.

He stated that he was then left waiting for another 15 minutes since the employer had not authorised his request to attend the meeting.

The individual stated that the interview generated additional concerns as the corporation outlined what the employment entails.

According to him, the social media management position entailed content development, video editing, graphic design, and sales duties.

He stated that he was also expected to drive sales through the company’s social media platforms.

He viewed the broad scope of tasks as a huge warning flag.

“Tell me why as a social media manager I’m also your content creator and your video editor.”

He also questioned the company’s decision to not offer a fixed wage for the post.

According to him, the employer stated that remuneration would be based on the sales he created, with earnings coming from commissions.

The individual claimed the corporation then requested him to modify and send a video within 90 minutes.

He stated that he declined and formally withdrew his application.

“I’m withdrawing my application for this job. Thank you for the time, thank you for the interview, but it’s not for me.”
