A Nigerian woman living in the UK has sparked controversy on social media after expressing her views on marriage and asserting that it would only take two weeks for her to wed a Nigerian man.
She clarified that many Nigerian men would be interested in marriage because they perceive it as a chance to move overseas in a video posted on X (previously Twitter), however she admitted that some might have sincere intentions.
“If I want to marry any man in Nigeria now, it won’t take me more than two weeks for us to have our wedding because many of them are looking for opportunities to travel abroad. Some might be genuine, some might not,” she said
The woman went on to say that she would prefer a man who lives and works in the United Kingdom to one who holds a more renowned position in Nigeria.
She claims that her desire stems from the chances and quality of life she associates with living overseas.
“So, I’d rather marry a cleaner in the UK than marry a banker in Nigeria,” she added.
Her statements have prompted controversy online, with some Nigerians believing that greater prospects abroad might affect relationships, while others say love, character and genuine intentions should count more.
