Bella’s lawyers fire back at Sheggz over defamation claims, make fresh allegations

In response to the cease-and-desist notice purportedly delivered by her ex-boyfriend Sheggz, attorneys for former Big Brother Naija housemate Bella Okagbue have rejected the requests made in the letter.

The reaction follows Sheggz’s lawyers’ accusation that Bella made disparaging remarks about him and his family during their turbulent split.

In response, Bella’s legal team contended that the connection entailed what they called a breach of pledge to marry and misrepresentation of intentions rather than just a broken relationship.

Additionally, they claimed that Sheggz had gotten multiple loans from Bella under false pretences and promised to take the matter to a suitable court.

“The relationship between our client and your client is not one that has irretrievably broken down but rather a situation of ‘breach of promise to marry’ and misrepresentation of intentions that amounts to deceit.

“Your client obtained several loans by false pretence from our client, and we shall pursue this claim before a competent court, evidence abound,” Bella’s lawyers wrote.

Sheggz’s accusations regarding alleged defamatory remarks and mental suffering were also contested by the legal team, who insisted that he provide evidence that the statements he claimed hurt him.

They rejected Sheggz’s notice’s requests and further contended that Bella could not be automatically blamed for any purported pain.

“The onus resides with your client to provide receipts of any defamatory claims or whatsoever statement made against his family members. Your client asserts and he must prove the statement that caused him mental distress.

“Please note that your client’s alleged suffering (if any) cannot be attributed to our client. Consequently, your client’s demand for compliance is entirely rejected,” it added.

As their disagreement takes a legal turn, the response is yet another step in the public split between the ex-couple.
