A Nigerian woman has shared a terrible story about how a friend allegedly abandoned her three-month-old kid with her family in 2018, only to return nearly eight years later and claim custody of the child.
According to the lady, her acquaintance came to her home with the infant before leaving to “grab something,” but never returned.
After hours of waiting, she and her mother took the baby to the woman’s family home, hoping that the child’s grandma would take him in.
Read what she said below:
“She said she was coming back after getting something, but she never returned. We took the baby to her mother’s house, but she refused to accept him and told us to carry him back because she wasn’t interested in taking care of any child.”
With no one willing to care for the newborn, the lady stated that she and her mother accepted entire responsibility for rearing the boy.
They purchased baby food, clothes, and nappies, cared for him throughout illness, enrolled him in school, and finally built a close bond with him.
“The baby is turning eight next month, and now his mother has returned, saying she wants to reunite with him. She even said she would go the extra mile to make sure he leaves us. I have been insulted, bullied and harassed because of this situation, and honestly, I don’t know what to do anymore,” she added.
The moving story has elicited conflicting comments on social media. While many sympathised with the lady and congratulated her for raising the child, others argued that the original mother, too, deserves a chance to reunite with her son.
The tragedy has rekindled debates about parental duty, child welfare, and whether biological links should trump years of care and emotional bonding.
