Using his predicament to illustrate the hidden financial hardships faced by those who live abroad, a Nigerian man has sparked emotions on social media after disclosing that he now has €10 remaining in his bank account.
He brazenly said that many people overseas are not as financially sound as they seem in a video that went viral on social media.
Read what he said below:
“As I’m making this video, I have only 10 euros in my bank account now. In fact, so many people living in Western countries are living in minus, that is, they have overdrafts.”
He asserted that, in contrast to Africa, where certain businesspeople can readily supply €100,000 to €300,000 in cash if necessary, it is nearly hard to find someone in Europe with €20,000 in cash in their account.
“But here in the West, nobody has that money. This is to tell you how poor most guys that are living abroad are,” he added.
Since then, there have been conflicting responses to his comment; while some people concur that living overseas can be expensive, others disagree.
One social media user wrote, “People think abroad is automatic wealth. Bills abroad will humble you fast.” Another added, “Living abroad doesn’t mean rich. It just means expensive responsibilities.”
The long-running argument between the reality of “abroad life” and the perception that many people at home hold about it has been reignited by the conversation.
