A Nigerian woman has sparked reactions online after recounting how her colleague allegedly continued accepting daily meals from a man despite having no romantic interest in him.
In a post shared on X (formerly Twitter) by @Olami_deeEbony, the woman explained that the man, who owns a small restaurant on Lagos Island, regularly sent elaborate meals to her colleague through a dispatch rider.
According to her, the meals included stir-fry pasta, party jollof rice and assorted pepper soup. The man reportedly went as far as creating a special menu for the lady to ensure she received lunch around noon every day.
Recounting the incident, the woman said one of their colleagues jokingly questioned whether the lady was dating the man, considering how intentional he appeared to be with his gestures.
However, the lady reportedly dismissed the suggestion, admitting that she was not interested in dating him but enjoyed the meals he sent.
She wrote:> “One of my colleagues jokingly said, ‘I hope you’re dating this man o, because he’s really intentional about you.’ This babe opened her mouth and said, ‘Dating who? I can’t date him o. He’s not my type. I just love the food, so let me keep giving him false hope.’”
The situation reportedly changed when the man failed to send her lunch one afternoon.
According to the narrator, the lady repeatedly checked her phone before eventually calling him at about 2 p.m. to ask why her food had not arrived.
The man reportedly used the opportunity to ask her to give him a definite answer about whether she wanted a relationship with him so he could redirect his attention elsewhere.
However, the lady allegedly became upset, questioning why he was giving her an ultimatum over the meals he had been sending.
Before she could finish speaking, the man reportedly ended the call.
The narrator said her colleague appeared visibly upset after the call, while other workers in the office laughed at the unexpected turn of events.
The story has sparked conversations online about accepting gifts and romantic gestures from admirers without having any intention of reciprocating their feelings.
It has also raised questions about honesty, expectations and the importance of making one’s romantic intentions clear rather than allowing another person to believe a relationship may develop.
