Frank Edward, a gospel music musician, has prompted internet outrage for wondering why Super Eagles players chewed gum during a vital penalty shootout.

His comments came after Nigeria missed a penalty, with Frank Edward attributing chewing gum to Samuel Chukwueze’s failure to convert.

In a widely shared online article, Frank Edward said that the gum made the players appear unprofessional during the crucial moment.

“WHO EVEN GAVE OUR GUYS THE GUMS THEY WERE CHEWING DURING PENALTY?!IT MADE THEM LOOK UNSERIOUS!”

The singer went on to argue that chewing gum impairs attention during penalties.

He added: “When you chew a part of your brain is automatically assigned to that!! So how do you chew when you need all your available brain capacity to score penalty? What kind of monkey post penalty was that??”

Frank Edward’s comments elicited diverse reactions, with many Nigerians disagreeing with his stance on gum chewing.
