House of Reps members in rowdy session over motion to summon President Tinubu

Today, July 8, the House of Representatives was thrown into a boisterous session after Hon. Mascot Ikwechegh moved to summon President Tinubu due to the budget’s poor execution and the delays in the release of funds to Ministries, Departments, and Agencies (MDAs).

Concerns about the speed at which the budget is being implemented and the effects of financing delays on government operations were the focus of the motion.

‘’Agencies are not being funded. Our people are k!dnapped every day. Heads are being chopped off on national television every day. We want to invite the President of Nigeria as our father, to come and explain to us why we are spending trillions of Naira doing coastal roads, yet Nigerians are dying’’ he said

A fur!ous argument broke out when he was introducing the motion to the house, with those opposed to it requesting him and those who supported it to sit down.

Proceedings were disturbed by the intense discussions, which resulted in a protracted debate that lasted almost thirty minutes.

Following the discussion, the motion was overruled by Hon. Tajudeen Abbas, the Speaker of the House.

Abbas clarified that the prayers in the motion as it was read aloud on the floor were different from those in the sponsor’s original submission, characterising it as a departure from the approved text.
