Despite sustaining a severe arm injury during the team’s thrilling 3-2 triumph over Mexico, Jordan Henderson, an England midfielder, will play for the remainder of the 2026 FIFA World Cup, according to his father, Brian Henderson.
While celebrating England’s Round of 16 triumph at the Azteca Stadium, the seasoned midfielder fell over advertising boards and incurred the injury.
Later, Henderson was transported to the hospital on a stretcher and had surgery.
Dad discloses the severity of the harm
In an interview with Mail Online, Brian Henderson revealed that the injury was more serious than first thought, but he maintained that his son has no plans to leave the England camp.
“It’s his left forearm – he’s just completely smashed it. He’s going to have a cast on and then it depends on what the experts say. He won’t be leaving his team-mates. He’ll be there until it’s finished.”
Brian claimed that before he saw Henderson receiving medical attention on television, he thought the incident was unimportant.
“At first I just thought he’d fallen. I thought he’d maybe scraped his wrist. I had no idea it was that serious until they were interviewing Harry Kane and a trolley came past with Jordan on it. I could see him on there with oxygen and things.”
He added that he immediately sought updates from Henderson’s representatives while waiting for news from doctors.
“Straight away, I messaged his PA, who was over there, to try and find out what had happened. I was up all night waiting to hear the news. It’s just a waiting game now.”
Henderson stayed in Mexico City to have surgery on his fractured forearm while the rest of Thomas Tuchel’s team went back to their training facility in Kansas City.
The 35-year-old has only played once in this World Cup, coming off the bench in England’s group stage 2-0 triumph over Panama.
Henderson sent an optimistic message following England’s victory, despite being ruled out of further action.
“A night to remember that’s for sure! What an incredible performance against all the different challenges. So proud to be a part of this special team. Thanks for all the support, another big one Saturday.”
England will face Norway in the World Cup quarter-finals, with Erling Haaland’s side advancing after a surprise victory over Brazil.
