“I just left the NEPA office in Calabar. I was given a prepaid meter for my family house, but I couldn’t buy tokens. When I got there, I found out the official used another person’s name to open the account, and the account has an outstanding debt of ₦406,000.”

The lady stated that she immediately questioned the officials about how she was supposed to utilise a meter related to someone else’s debt.

She further said that when she requested a replacement meter or a change in her account information, she was told there was nothing they could do.

“They said there’s nothing I can do about it. I can’t be paying another person’s debt. Please, is this how they do it? I don’t even know who the person is,” she added.

Her comments have sparked outrage online, with many Nigerians sharing similar stories and urging the electrical company to examine the situation.

The episode has rekindled discussions about transparency and accountability in Nigeria’s electricity industry, with many pushing the government to respond to such concerns as soon as possible.
