Oluwaseyifunmi, a German graduate from the University of Ibadan (UI), has been granted N1 million in compensation by a German language school after a dispute at work went viral on X, formerly Twitter.
The payment was made a few days after the graduate made it public that, citing disparities in professional standards, she had severed her links with the school only 13 days after returning to work.
After sharing her brief experience working with the German Language School, Oluwaseyifunmi went viral on X.
She said that the expectations and working atmosphere did not match her professional standards and ideals.
Her message immediately became well-known and sparked a lot of internet discussion. Some individuals urged her to change her mind, while others applauded her for being steadfast.
The German Language School addressed the matter in an official statement on X amid the escalating online debates.
The school acknowledged that there were mistakes in the way the situation was handled and expressed regret to Oluwaseyifunmi.
The school offered N1 million in compensation as part of the apologies, saying it was a way to thank her for her hard work and compensate her for the inconvenience she had during her brief visit.
Opinions on social media were further split when the settlement was announced.
The institution received praise from many Nigerians for accepting responsibility and addressing the matter amicably in public.
Others praised both sides for reaching a peaceful resolution, pointing out that comparable agreements are uncommon in workplace conflicts of this nature.
Oluwaseyifunmi responded to the school’s post on X by expressing gratitude for its candour and readiness to accept accountability.
