Rufai Oseni, an Arise TV presenter, had a contentious live interview with Israel’s Ambassador to Nigeria, Michael Freeman, on Friday, questioning him directly on Israel’s military history and current policy.
The discussion focused on historical events like the King David Hotel bombing, previous operations, and recent casualties in Gaza.
Oseni constantly interrupted the ambassador to emphasise his argument, claiming that Israel had faced claims of human rights violations in the West Bank and Gaza.
“Do not interrupt me, ambassador. Let me finish,” Oseni said, highlighting what he described as a pattern of historical and ongoing hypocrisy in Israel’s foreign policy, particularly regarding Iran’s nuclear programme.
In his response, Ambassador Freeman contested some of Oseni’s claims, saying, “Some of the statements you made at the beginning were outrageous and absolutely based on no facts.”
He justified Israel’s conduct in recent battles, notably the 12-day war against Iran’s nuclear program, arguing that Iran is still pursuing nuclear development despite economic problems and domestic crises.
Freeman also highlighted Iran’s ongoing investment in missile and uranium enrichment programs, as well as its support for regional extremist organisations.
The interview emphasises the increasing global focus on Middle East conflicts, particularly the US-Israel-Iran triangle, as well as the difficulties journalists encounter when addressing ambassadors about unpopular policies.
Oseni’s approach reflects a larger drive in Nigerian media to hold foreign leaders accountable for geopolitical activities that appeal to African audiences.
