“Does gender equality not apply on battlefield?” – Man questions female soldier deployment in Nigerian Army

A Nigerian man has generated outrage online by querying why feminist groups in Nigeria are not protesting the lack of female soldiers on the battlefield.

The post, which Abubakar Sani shared on Facebook, comes as there are mounting concerns about insecurity across the country.

Sani stated that, while feminists frequently discuss gender equality in society, he has yet to see any protests about the Nigerian Army’s failure to send female soldiers to the front lines.

He questioned if the principle of gender equality applied on the battlefield.

Read his words below:

In my entire life, I have never seen a single feminist protesting why the Nigerian Army is not sending female soldiers to the war front. I wonder whether gender equality does not apply to the battlefield.”

The appointment comes as Nigeria’s security situation deteriorates, with rebels and bandits carrying out frequent attacks in various states.

The Nigerian Army currently has female soldiers, however the majority are said to be serving in support, administrative, and medical jobs rather than active combat.
