A Nigerian woman identified as Onovo Chika Sandra has shared her experience of what she described as a difficult seven-year marriage to a husband she accused of being overly dependent on his mother.
Sandra, who said she was married to an Enugu-born man, revealed that she eventually left the marriage because, according to her, her husband consistently followed his mother’s instructions and allowed her to influence their relationship.
She explained that she endured significant difficulties throughout the marriage before deciding to walk away, jokingly saying she left her former husband to “marry his mother.”
In a Facebook post shared on Friday, August 14, 2026, Sandra said she had attempted to remove her former husband’s surname, Onovo, from her official documents but was still experiencing difficulties with the process at her bank.
She disclosed that she and her former husband had been married for seven years before their separation. According to her, she was younger and less experienced at the time of the marriage and would not tolerate a similar situation today.
Sandra also used her experience to emphasize the importance of being mentally and emotionally prepared before getting married.
She said she would share more details about what she allegedly experienced during the marriage when she feels emotionally ready to discuss them publicly.
