Senate President Godswill Akpabio has made a surprise decision to dismiss all existing court actions against Senator Natasha Akpoti and others who allegedly defamed him.

The declaration was made during a New Year church service in Uyo, Akwa Ibom State.

Speaking at the ceremony at Sacred Heart Parish, Akpabio stated that he has filed nearly nine lawsuits against people he accused of lying, defaming, and slandering him.

However, he claimed that everything changed when he was listening to the priest’s speech.

“I had almost nine cases in court against some individuals who defamed me, who lied against me and slandered my name. But as I listened to the priest, I suddenly realised he was speaking to me,” Akpabio said.

Moved by the message, the Senate President stated that he had decided to let go and forgive, preferring peace to lengthy legal fights.

He then publicly directed his lawyers to drop all charges.

“Therefore, I hereby direct my solicitors to withdraw all lawsuits against them,” he added

Akpabio’s choice has aroused debate in political and social circles, with many viewing it as a rare moment of contemplation and restraint in Nigerian politics.

Whether this move eases tensions or raises new problems, one thing is certain: the Senate President has chosen forgiveness over the courtroom.
