BREAKING: Chelsea sack Enzo Maresca after breakdown in relations

Chelsea have fired head coach Enzo Maresca after a complete collapse in ties with the club leadership, ending his employment just months after winning two major trophies.

The Italian’s departure comes just three days before Chelsea’s trip to Manchester City, highlighting the severity of the internal crisis that has unfurled at Stamford Bridge in recent weeks.

Maresca was on a collision path with senior executives at the club following a series of tense confrontations behind the scenes.

Matters deteriorated following his cryptic statements after a Premier League win over Everton on December 13, in which he spoke of having the “worst 48 hours” of his career at Chelsea.

His failure to clarify his words, either internally or publicly, damaged trust.

Despite efforts to stabilise the situation, tensions deteriorated fast, and Chelsea’s hierarchy concluded that the working relationship had become untenable.

Maresca’s departure came despite evident progress on the pitch earlier this season.

In his first season as Chelsea manager, the former Leicester City manager won the UEFA Conference League and the FIFA Club World Cup, both of which temporarily improved his position.

However, a bad run of league performances, along with mounting internal conflict, overshadowed those achievements. The club determined that prolonged uncertainty posed a threat to important objectives, particularly Champions League qualification.

In a brief statement, Chelsea acknowledged the decision to part ways, praising Maresca for his achievements and recognising the titles earned during his tenure.

The club emphasised that, with important competitions still in play, a management change was considered as the best way to get the season back on track.

Maresca’s departure is effective immediately, leaving Chelsea searching for stability and direction on the pitch once more.
