Caleb University names Folu Adeboye as new chancellor

Folu Adeboye, the wife of the General Overseer of the Redeemed Christian Church of God, has been named the new Chancellor of Caleb University.

In Lagos, the news was made Monday, ushering in a new era of ceremonial governance and leadership for the organization.

Shortly after Adeboye received an honorary Doctor of Humanity (Honoris Causa) during the university’s 15th convocation event, he was appointed.

Her new responsibilities will include officially awarding degrees to graduating students, conducting convocation ceremonies, and acting as the ceremonial president of the university, according to the school.

The move was hailed as a milestone by university authorities, who also pointed out that the role of Chancellor is symbolic but has a significant impact on the institution’s external connections, image, and ideals.

The institution sees Adeboye’s appointment as Chancellor as a strategic addition to its academic and moral mission, according to Vice-Chancellor Professor Olalekan Asikhia.

He pointed out that the institution’s emphasis on character-driven education is consistent with her longstanding commitment in faith-based leadership, counselling, and mentoring.

In a similar vein, the institution was honoured by her acceptance of the position, according to Registrar Mr. Mayokun Olumeru, who described her as a personification of discipline, service, and moral leadership.

Caleb University graduated 1,924 students from a variety of programs in the same ceremony.

In keeping with the institution’s growing academic presence, the cohort comprised 22 PhD recipients and 96 First Class graduates.
