A Nigerian woman has sparked online discussions for deleting her childhood friend’s phone number due to feelings of inadequacy and comparison.
The woman, known on X (formerly Twitter) as @girlsMum1, shared her experience in a post that has since gained traction among social media users..
I Deleted Her Number
Her post explains that she deleted her friend’s contact because seeing their WhatsApp status reminded her of the differences in their current lives.
She wrote:
“I deleted my childhood friend’s number today because I didn’t want to see her WhatsApp status anymore. She seems to be doing well for herself, a stable business, a healthy relationship, basically everything. Meanwhile, I’m on the other end, struggling with almost everything in my life. I know I shouldn’t compare, but deep down it keeps coming up.”
Mixed Emotions
The lady admitted that while she is genuinely happy for her friend’s achievements, she could not ignore the sting of seeing someone she grew up with doing better.
She added: “I’m genuinely happy for her, but I can’t deny that it stings to see someone we started life together doing better. Does this make me a bad person?”
