Razaq Okoya, a billionaire businessman, has disclosed his intentions for his children with his wife, Shade Okoya, saying he is getting them ready to inherit his company.
The 79-year-old stated in an interview with Arise TV that he is deliberately raising his younger children because they “hold the future.”
“I am holding these younger ones close so they don’t go astray like the older ones. At 79, I have to pass it on to them,” he said.
Beyond wealth, Okoya clarified, his goal is to inculcate in them character and discipline.
He claims that rather than merely money, the foundation he want to leave behind is experience and strong principles.
“Number one is experience. Number two, they have to learn how to be focused, honest, determined and punctual,” he added
Additionally, he revealed that although one of his daughters attends school in Europe, she is frequently brought back to Nigeria to learn about the family business structure.
He underlined that despite her exposure elsewhere, she still needs to comprehend local concepts and practices.
The billionaire gave Shade credit for bolstering and solidifying his enterprise in other parts of the interview.
He regarded her as completely in charge of operations and commended her commitment to the company.
“Shade was the one who consolidated my empire. She goes to the factory by 7am and comes back by 7pm. She is in charge of everything you see.”
Insisting that the company stay a family business, Okoya stressed that he had no plans to go public.
Since then, his remarks have sparked online discussions on family dynamics in affluent houses and succession planning.
