The approval followed a meeting with a delegation from China Harbour Engineering Company Limited, led by Mr. Nicolas Liu, where discussions centered on the proposed port project in Abia State.

According to Governor Alex Otti, the company initially proposed a six to seven-month timeline for the feasibility study. However, he directed that the process be completed within a shorter timeframe to fast-track the project’s development and ensure early progress.

In addition to the study, the Abia State Government will begin moves to secure necessary approvals from the Presidency, the Nigerian Ports Authority, and the Federal Ministry of Marine and Blue Economy.

Governor Otti also urged the engineering team to visit the proposed project site to properly assess its viability, noting its strategic proximity to the high sea as well as the technical considerations required for its execution, including dredging operations.

He emphasized that the Azumini Sea Port project holds enormous economic potential for Abia State and could position the state as a key player in Nigeria’s maritime and logistics industry.

“With strong commitment, proper funding, and strategic partnerships, we can make the Azumini Sea Port a reality,” the governor stated.

Otti thanked the delegation from China Harbour Engineering Company Limited for their presentation and expressed optimism over positive outcomes from the upcoming feasibility study.
