“You’re poor because you chose not to marry” – Pastor Kingsley Okonkwo tells single men, sparks online debate

Kingsley Okonkwo, a relationship counsellor and priest, sparked internet debate after sending a stark warning to unmarried men over the age of 28 concerning marriage and finances.

During a recent teaching, Kingsley addressed the widely held belief that men delay marriage due to financial constraints.

Instead, he contended that the contrary can sometimes be true.

Read what he said below;

“If you’re a single man above 28, of course this is not casting iron, but generally speaking, one of the best things you can do for yourself is to marry.

Many single men think it’s because I don’t have money that I’m not married. No, it’s because you are not married, you don’t have money. Statistically, married people make more money than single people.”

He believes that responsibility drives growth.He emphasised that a single guy may live comfortably on the bare minimum, however a married man cannot.

Kingsley went on to say that marriage forces guys to raise their game since they have families to support.

“As a single man, you don’t have to make more money. But a married person, whether you like it or not, you have to make more money. And the way life works, once you set your mind that you have to do something, the circumstances and resources you need to do it come,” he added.

He went on to emphasise that money is not the main factor in marriage, stating that a young guy needs three things in order to get married, and money is not one of them.

Additionally, he cited biblical teachings to support his claim that some life milestones should be reached in one’s youth rather than at forty.

This follows the cleric’s controversial birthday tattoo, which he said had scriptural support.
