“You’re Choosing Money Over God’s Blessings” — Port Harcourt Pastor Questions Driver’s Resignation

A pastor in Port Harcourt, Rivers State, has reportedly questioned his driver’s decision to resign after securing a better-paying job, allegedly warning him against choosing money over God’s blessings.

The incident was recounted by an acquaintance of the driver, who shared details of the young man’s experience, including his salary, working conditions and decision to seek better employment.

According to the account, the pastor paid the driver ₦120,000 monthly, provided meals when they travelled together and promised to help him settle down.

However, after working for nearly a year, the driver reportedly requested a salary increase but was advised to appreciate the opportunity to work in God’s vineyard.

The young man accepted the response and continued in the role until he received a job offer from a company willing to pay him ₦250,000 monthly.

Pastor Questions Driver’s Decision to Leave

Following the new offer, the driver reportedly submitted his resignation, prompting the pastor to invite him into his office to discuss his decision.

During the conversation, the pastor allegedly asked why he wanted to leave a workplace where he enjoyed spiritual covering.

The driver reportedly explained that he needed a better salary to meet his financial needs. However, the pastor warned him against placing money above spiritual blessings.

According to the account, the pastor told him:

“You are making a big mistake by choosing money over God’s blessings.”

Despite the warning, the driver reportedly remained committed to his decision to leave for the new job, which offered him more than twice his previous monthly salary.

Story Sparks Debate Over Pay and Faith

The account has raised questions about the relationship between faith, workplace expectations and employees’ financial needs.

Although the pastor reportedly provided additional benefits, including meals during trips, the driver’s decision to accept the new offer highlights the importance of adequate compensation in employment relationships.

The situation has also prompted discussion about whether spiritual benefits should influence workers’ decisions to pursue better-paying opportunities.

While religious guidance may be important to some employees, the story underscores the practical reality that workers must also consider their financial responsibilities and long-term welfare.

However, the account was shared by a third party, and the pastor’s own perspective was not provided. It also remains unclear whether he fulfilled his reported promise to help the driver settle down.
