A Nigerian father has stirred an internet discourse after sharing an unexpected occurrence involving his wife and his little daughter.

The man stated that the incident occurred in the morning while he was only attempting to assist with childcare tasks.

According to him, the experience left him bewildered and wondering if there are any cultural or customary rules he is unaware of.

The anecdote, which he shared on social media, sparked emotions from many Nigerians, who weighed in with their own perspectives.

In his post, the father stated that his wife was busy cooking in the kitchen when he decided to assist by bathing his young daughter.

He regarded the incident as a typical parenting responsibility and stated that he carried the child to the loo without thinking anything weird about it.

However, the scene changed abruptly as his wife raced out of the kitchen in a panic.

According to him, the way she ran gave the impression that an emergency had occurred inside the house.

Read what he wrote below:

“This morning something happened in my house that really surprised me.

I wanted to bath my little daughter because my wife was busy in the kitchen cooking. Just normal father duties, nothing serious. I carried my daughter and went to the bathroom.

Suddenly my wife rushed out of the kitchen like there was an emergency. The way she ran, you would think someone shouted that a bomb was about to drop.

She looked at me with very serious eyes and said I should stop immediately. According to her, I have no right to bath our female child and she had warned me about it before.

She even said this would be the last warning and that I wouldn’t like what would happen if I tried it again.”

The father stated that following the altercation, he was left standing in the restroom, puzzled and ashamed.

He added that he had never heard of a law or guideline in Nigeria prohibiting a father from bathing his own daughter.

According to him, the scenario made him wonder whether some families have cultural views that discourage such behaviour.

He added: “Honestly, I just stood there confused, looking like a complete fool because I have never heard of any law in Nigeria that says a father cannot bath his own daughter.

Now I’m really wondering… Is there actually any rule or cultural belief that says a father shouldn’t bath his daughter? Or is this just something some families believe in?”

After telling the story, the father invited other parents to express their thoughts.

He questioned whether fathers bathe their girls and whether mothers think it is inappropriate.
