Davido, an Afrobeats singer, told the heartwarming tale of how his childhood friend Lati influenced his career and helped him become one of Africa’s biggest music sensations.

During a livestream with content creator Carter Efe, the singer revealed the information, reflecting on their long-standing friendship and outlining why he thinks Lati should be given credit for his achievements.

Speaking during the conversation, Davido said, “Without Lati, there’s no Davido.”

According to Davido, Lati was employed by his late mother prior to her demise. He claimed that after her passing, his stepmother wanted Lati to leave the family home, but as Lati was the youngest employee, the two had already developed a strong relationship.

The singer said, “Lati used to work for my mum. My mum passed, you know, Lati used to work for my mum. So when my mum passed, you know, Lati stayed around. And then when my mum passed, my step mum came, chased Lati away from the house.”

Davido claims that Lati had a strong interest in DJing and music production, frequently taking him to recording studios without anyone’s knowledge.

He said, “Lati would sneak me in his car, go to the studio… He used to do music and DJ. So then he would carry me to the studio.”

Years later, Davido fulfilled a pledge.
After moving to the US for school as a youngster, Davido remembered losing touch with Lati. Upon their reunion in Nigeria, he informed his friend that he had made the decision to pursue a career in music and that they would tour the world together if he achieved success.

Years later, after becoming well-known, the artist kept his word and added Lati to his squad. Despite the fact that Lati is currently employed in the oil and gas industry, Davido’s heartfelt homage has garnered adoration on social media, with many fans applauding his devotion to and appreciation for someone he claims was essential to his career.
