Terrorists planning to attack airport, prison facilities in Abuja, Niger State — Report

The attacks are being planned by members of the Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP), the Boko Haram division led by Sadiku, Ansaru, and Jama’at Nusrat al-Islam wal-Muslimeen (JNIM), according to an internal note made public by the Nigerian Customs Service (NCS).

Terrorists have plans to assault Abuja’s airport and jail facilities as well as those in adjacent Niger State, according to a security report.

The attacks are being prepared by members of the Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP), the Sadiku-led Boko Haram group, Ansaru, and Jama’at Nusrat al-Islam wal-Muslimeen (JNIM), according to an internal note made public by the Nigerian Customs Service (NCS).

In the area of Kainji Lake National Park, the Sadiku Boko Haram faction collaborates with Ansaru and JNIM.

According to intelligence sources, the group relocated from Shiroro LGA in Niger State to the Kainji axis in July 2025, where it abducted around 300 children and employees from St. Mary’s Catholic school in Papiri.

Additionally, it was in charge of kidnapping over a hundred women and children from Konkoso (Niger), Kasuwan Daji, and Woro (Kwara).

The terrorists are targeting Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport (NAIA), the Kuje Custodial Center, and a military detention facility in Wawa, Niger State, according to a memo dated April 13 and signed by Timi Bomodi, a Deputy Comptroller General in charge of the Enforcement, Inspection and Investigation (EI&I) unit.

In order to prepare for the attack on the airport and Kuje jail, ISWAP members, under the leadership of the group in Kano, “have already infiltrated” the Federal Capital Territory, according to the two-page document that our correspondent was able to view.

It stated that the Sadiku-led Boko Haram branch is working with Ansaru and JNIM to plan the assault on the military detention facility in Wawa.

According to the source, the planned attack on the airport is comparable to the Islamic State’s attacks on aviation facilities in Niamey and Tahoua in the Niger Republic. “Their intention is to release detained terrorists and inflict significant damage on critical aviation infrastructure.”

“This suggests a possible intent by terrorists to replicate the attack patterns within Nigeria,” it added.
